There is no denying that life can be difficult sometimes and that no one escapes emotional and psychological wounds. Due to the fact that these wounds are often ‘persona non gratas’, our minds tell us to be combative or to avoid which regretfully can sometimes lead to chaos on one end or rigidity on the other. We must therefore learn healthy ways to approach these ‘guests’ with curiosity and courage as they often times carry with them wisdom which when fully processed and integrated can be liberating. Like the proverbial mother-in-law who shows up unannounced and takes over the kitchen, these psychological wounds no doubt can be intrusive. However, with some patience, courage and adroitness, they can be integrated “into the family” and bring tremendous value to our lives. As a therapist with almost 20 years of working with people and studying human behaviour (including my own), this one thing I have come to know as true: our pain and brokenness can lead to a place of discovery, growth and freedom!

As a relational psychotherapist who believes that mutually satisfying relationships are vital to maintaining optimal emotional health, I approach my work first and foremost from a person centered perspective; while helping clients learn about their wounded and protective parts as well as develop skills that help them integrate their emotions and pivot from the mental traps.

Anthony is a Registered Social worker and a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor.
